WHAT IS UP IN STRATHAM???

I read an article in the Exeter News Letter abouth the refusal of the Board of Selectmen to allow a POW Flag to be flown at their Veterans Park (a park that was designed and built by Pete Wiggin) so I gave Pete a call to find out what was going on and this is his unedited reply.  I am going to comment on this in a second blog; but, these are the facts.

It was good talking with you the other day. I am forwarding the answer to your question regarding what my "Impassioned Stand" consisted of in the news story which occurred in the December 23rd article in the Exeter Newsletter entitled, "Selectmen stand by decision not to fly MIA/POW flag".

I thought it best to forward this in a simplified bullet format for ease and clarity of understanding regarding the controversy.

A follow up story specific to the veterans concerns is to occur in the Exeter Newsletter following my filing of the Citizens Petition with the Town of Stratham. That should occur in the next week or two.

Editor Paul Dietterle has assured me that reporter Allyson Johnson will be able to complete her previous reporting which was considerably edited due to the Exeter Newsletters privacy concerns for the veteran interviewed.

Following are the subjects I talked about at the meeting :

I spoke specifically to the issues related to ALL those men and women listed as Missing In Action MIA.

I did this with the permission of, materials and information given me by two Veterans of the Vietnam War. One a resident of the town the other a non resident. I emphasized the importance of the Stratham Veterans Memorial to ALL veterans who have sacrificed in so many ways for our country.

I appeared at this meeting for the sole purpose of representing these two combat soldiers and their concerns.

The non resident Veteran had given me a letter to present to the Selectmen expressing his thoughts and concerns. This I did. I also described to them his personal experience on the field of battle, described in the letter, which he felt necessitated his involvement as a non resident with the controversy here in Stratham.

He also gifted me a South Vietnamese flag in recognition of my past efforts for this cause. This I exhibited to the Selectmen. None could identify it so I explained its importance to them.

The resident Veteran, a former Marine who served with the 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam was actually present that night and spoke with the reporter separate from my presentation. It is that interview which I understand will make up the follow up story following my filing of the Citizens Petition.

He had previously supplied me with a five page list of his Battalions casualty statistics. These I presented to the Selectmen.

The list included those Killed in Action (KIA). Two Hundred and Twenty-Three men.

The list included those Killed in Action, Bodies Never Recovered (KIA) (BNR). Twenty-Nine men.

I followed up this presentation with the most recently released statistics from Washington of those listed as Missing in Action (MIA) for the individual wars. They are as follows :

World War I, 3,344. World War II, 78,503. The Korean War 8,032. The Vietnam War 1,651.

The total for these wars is Ninety-One Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty (91,530) presently listed as Missing In Action.

I then made an Impassioned Plea in hopes that this NEW information supplied by me to them and these numbers might have some impact on their former decision to NOT fly the POW-MIA flag within the Veterans Memorial. I explained how important the POW-MIA flag was to ALL veterans such as these and their families whose most iconic symbol, acknowledged nationally, is that flag.

My plea fell on deaf ears. As the article describes, all three now stand by the previous decision to not fly the POW-MIA flag on the single pole within the memorial.

At the conclusion of this meeting and its reporting, my 'Letter to the Editor' which also appears in the December 23rd issue now stands as much more representative of the contrasting views and facts related to this issue.

As such, it is not surprising that the resident veteran has requested of me that his brick be removed from the memorial. He feels that he can not with clear conscience be represented within a memorial that fails to represent the ultimate sacrifices of his Brothers. Many of who remain still, Missing In Action on the field of battle. In this I support him 100%.

It is my understanding that the resident Veteran has supplied additional information to the Exeter Newsletter as well as a letter from the town dated January 12, 2011 which will add significantly to the overall understanding and background of this most narrowest of views expressed by the Selectmen. I believe that this information will be well described in the follow up article by the Exeter Newsletter.

History does not appear to be a required course in schools now so we have a whole generation or two of young people who do not know or understand how our country was founded (the good and bad) and being taught by Socialist professors like the same that raised Obama.  So if they don’t get their own way they feel entitled to riot and destroy.

 

I know the liberals will go nuts but I accepted years ago that Obama is a racist; he can’t hide it that is how he was raised.  He single handedly picked the dormant scab of racism and by following Saul Alinsky’s teachings caused the major divisions that we have now.  He was calling Trump a racist as were the Democrats in the campaign, and talking about the KKK.  Where was the outrage when Obama and the HRC Democrats were endorsing the Black Lies Matter group?

 

This last election was a direct repudiation of the liberal agenda of elitism and condescending arrogance. I know the liberals (or progressives as they like to be called) don’t like being called out in this manner; but, it is overdue.  Some of the wannabe self proclaimed black leadership were on the news professing this election was a “white racist backlash” against a black president.  Only the liberals are stupid enough to believe this.  Obama was elected twice as president and this vote was not about his color; it was about his arrogance and his policies.  Remember when Obama said the United States is no longer a Christian nation and how the Muslims helped found our country?  That must have been why, in our early years, we had to send our marines and navy to Tripoli to kill them because they were attacking our merchant trade, enslaving our sailors and beheading them just for fun.  I guess they don’t teach that in school.

 

Our country was founded on our Christian beliefs and our belief in god, our founders acknowledged that one nation under god.  For any soldier that has been in true combat understands that sometimes his/her belief in god is the only thing that will help them get by.

 

If we do not understand where our country came from we will never figure out where we are going.

All this noise about what he said 11 years ago is ridiculous, although inappropriate doesn’t do a thing to move our country into the future.

 

Although he is a multibillion dollar construction worker, which seems to be where his sense of humor comes from it should be noted that he grew up rich and by some standards good looking in the entertainment field; that is a synthetic different world than you and I grew up in.  I don’t believe he had to go out and forcibly attack women like Bill Clinton did and had to.

 

It is obvious that Trump has lead the kind of life most guys would envy as long as we can separate what he does from what he says.

 

Any of the comments that just came to light were not said as a presidential candidate but more of an entertainer talking trash to another entertainer 11 years ago.  Hillary claims this campaign is in the gutter, she should know she took it there.

 

If there is a good point of all this nastiness it is to keep Trump reminded of just how vicious and nasty the Clintons’ are.  The secret service can attest, but, they can’t tell, just what a potty mouth nasty, nasty person Hillary is.

 

The major differences between the two is Trump can change.

If you're over 35, you lived through it, so read it and recollect. Amazing to me how much I had forgotten! For those under 35, read this, verify and don't forget. When Bill Clinton was president, he allowed Hillary to assume authority over an attempt to health care reform. Even after threats and intimidation, she couldn't get a vote in a Democrat controlled US Congress. This fiasco cost the American taxpayers about $13 million for studies, promotion, and other efforts. Then, President Clinton gave Hillary authority over selecting a female attorney general. Her first two selections were Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood - both were forced to withdraw their names from consideration. Next, she chose Janet Reno - husband Bill described her selection as "my worst mistake." Some may not remember that Reno made the decision to gas David Koresh and the Branch Davidian religious sect in Waco, Texas resulting in dozens of deaths of women and children. Husband Bill allowed Hillary to make recommendations for the head of the Civil Rights Commission. Lani Guanier was her selection. When a little probing led to the discovery of Ms. Guanier's radical views, her name had to be withdrawn from consideration. Apparently a slow learner, husband Bill allowed Hillary to make some more recommendations. She chose former law partners Web Hubbel for the Justice Department, Vince Foster for the White House staff, and William Kennedy for the Treasury Department. Her selections went well: Hubbel went to prison, Foster (presumably) committed suicide, and Kennedy was forced to resign. Many younger voters will have no knowledge of "Travelgate." Hillary wanted to award unfettered travel contracts to Clinton friend Harry Thompson - and the White House Travel Office refused to comply. She managed to have them reported to the FBI and fired. This ruined their reputations, cost them their jobs, and caused a thirty-six month investigation. Only one employee, Billy Dale was charged with a crime, and that of the enormous crime of mixing personal and White House funds. A jury acquitted him of any crime in less than two hours. Still not convinced of her ineptness, Hillary was allowed to recommend a close Clinton friend, Craig Livingstone, for the position of Director of White House security. I am amazed to talk to the progressive communist women Democrats that are voting for Hillary because she is a woman.  I suppose if Bonnie Parker of Bonnie and Clyde fame was running they would vote for her too, probably a better choice at least Bonnie was an honest crook.

A little history lesson, now that many schools made history a volunteer class, when women were given the right to vote one of the arguments against that was, “women think with their hearts and not their heads”.  Is this history all over again?  This is not all women; but a large number who seem to be in the younger progressive communist movement.

Hillary Clinton is a crook and a pathological liar, always has been and always will be.  Now on the other hand we have one strange dude running against her.  The choice between the two is scary; but, Trump is the more stable of the two, he is a political neophyte and keeps stepping on his private parts.  We had a saying in the army when we dealt with a dummy; he has a penis that is 4” long and 12” wide because of stepping on it (meaning stupidity).

The Louisiana State Police had received numerous reports of illegal cock fighting being held in the area around Abbeville and had sent their famous Detective Boudreaux from Thibodeaux to investigate.   Boudreaux promptly began his investigation and then reported to his Commander the next morning.

Anybody that has been paying attention to the news has been seeing the lack of readiness for our military.  It is with all branches, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.  They blame it all on lack of money.

The news articles that have drawn the most attention is the Air Force who some air fighter squadrons are only 43% combat readiness.  They are cannibalizing museum air craft for spare parts as is the Marine fighter squadrons, all because of no money, no parts.

What is interesting is Air Force one appears to be very well maintained and flies all together too much.  How can a responsible president frequently (as well as the elite family) spends millions of dollars for fancy vacations while our servicemen and women are in danger.  It would appear that it would be prudent to cut the White House budget dramatically and put the money into spare parts so our KIDS (military) have a fighting chance.

The more and more we look at this presidency the more and more we can see that this is a social experiment that went wrong.  

TED CRUZ-IS HE QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT???

Qualifications:

1.        Is being backed by the D.C. establishment

2.        It is widely known that he is a liar

3.       He is taking millions of $ from the D.C. lobbyists and establishment special interests (money goes to those who are for sale).

4.       It has been reported by several news agencies and news outlets that Cruz has had numerous extra marital affairs denying them and then trying to convince the conservative voters that he is one of us and an evangelical.

5.       He does not like or respect the people of NY and openly mocked them; now is trying to lie his way out that and trying to get their votes.

6.       He attacks other candidate’s wives and when he gets caught tries to lie his way out of it.

I was talking to Bill Clinton (not really) and we were discussing what qualified means and it looks like Cruz is qualified to be our next president.

SOMETHINGS NEVER CHANGE!!!

There once was  a king who wanted to go fishing.

He called the royal weather forecaster and inquired as to the weather forecast for the next few hours. The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the coming days. So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen.

On the way he met a farmer on his donkey. Upon seeing the king the farmer said, "Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area".

 The king was polite and considerate, he replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional.  And besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way." So he continued on his way.

 However, a short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky. The King and Queen were totally soaked and their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a shameful condition.  

Furious, the king returned to the palace and gave the order to fire the professional. Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of royal forecaster. The farmer said, "Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey. If I see my donkey's ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain." 

So the king hired the donkey. 

 And thus began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential positions. 

And the practice is unbroken to this date...

DONALD TRUMP SPEECH!!!

As your president one of the saddest parts of my job will be to send our young men and women into combat in the defense of our families, our country and our allies.  My only orders to your commanders and to you are to WIN!!

 

It goes without saying; but, I want to make this perfectly clear, when I send you into combat I expect you to come home and in one piece what you have to do to win will be decided by your commanders and you.  I will not condone criminal behavior, (murder-rape –or robbery).

 

I want this war on terror to be governed by our officers and enlisted people and I don’t expect you to be looking over your shoulders to see if a Jihadist sympathizing president will court martial you for protecting a seven year old boy from multiple rapes.

 

I will make sure that while you are overseas your families will be taken care of and protected especially since the militant Muslims have called on your families to be killed; NOT ON MY WATCH!!

Every day you are overseas fighting ISIS, I will say a prayer for your safety and to bring this war to an end and for you to have a victory parade.

 

Please forgive those dumb asses liberal Democrats who do not have a clue about the importance of your jobs and your defense of the great freedoms and legacy of the United States of America.

TORTURE DOES IT WORK OR NOT???

When you watch the news and the talk shows it is laughable when the military generals are quoted as saying torture does not work and has never been used by the U.S. and besides it doesn’t work.  This must be a new generation of generals and officers who fear speaking their minds or at the very least graduated at the bottom of their West Point Class; Obama has fired over 200 flag officers so the survivors are towing the rhetoric.

Let’s just take a walk down memory lane.  The Gestapo was excellent at interrogation and torture.  Historically the British, French, and Spanish were well versed as well as the NVA on inflicting pain to get information.  The secret is to get information that fits into more information.  It needs to be part of a jig saw puzzle the information you receive must fit into it, if the info doesn’t then you know you were being lied to and you need to double down on the interrogation on the other hand if you have an enemy telling you the truth during an interrogation they need to be rewarded.

We were told in Vietnam that torture was against the Geneva Convention, OK, but the North Vietnamese never signed the Geneva Convention and they acted accordingly.  When you see American Soldiers butchered/mutilated then it is time for pay back and if you need to torture prisoners to get the information you need then HELLO it’s time to realize combat is like NH Politics, it is a contact sport.

A few years ago I had a debate with a born again Lt. Col. Air Force Intelligence Officer and he made the mistake of asking me what I thought of Obama.  I told him I would not support any president that did not allow “enhanced interrogation”.  He told me that water boarding and torture did not work.  I asked him how many people he tortured (I wanted to see if he knew what he was talking about) and he said none but he was water boarded.  I asked him if that was part of his training or did he come home drunk one night with someone elses perfume on him and his wife wanted to know what he was doing and he laughed and said it was training.  He knew nothing about the subject and I started the education process and explained the jig saw puzzle comparison; I also explained if you torture people just to inflict pain then you are a sadist.  Torture is as much psychological as it can be painful.  People have a tendency to react to what you tell them, for example, “this is going to be extremely painful” and the enemy will respond like it is when it really isn’t.  Sleep deprivation is a huge interrogation tool that amplifies the pain of the “enhanced interrogation”.  This AF Officer had two beautiful daughters and they were getting ready to go to the AF Academy and one to R.O.T.C.  I asked him what he would sanction if one or both were taken prisoner in Muslim Land and they were about to be gang raped and if they lived through that they would be killed because they are Christians and considered prostitutes, and someone had a prisoner who knew where they were being held and wouldn’t talk, I used myself as an example of an interrogator and I could extract the information in a matter of minutes to save his daughters.  He said you make it hard don’t you?  He then asked how I would get the information and I can’t explain in this blog what I told him; but, it had to do with tying him to a poll, naked, in front of a pig pen and start cutting off body parts and feeding them to the pigs until he talked.  I used the cruelest grossest situation I could to make the point.  He looked down at the floor and couldn’t answer, I then explained to him that in every nasty, dirty style war there had to be people who didn’t exist doing a job that no one knew about or would admit.  Would you care how the information was obtained to save your kid(s), I don’t think so. Torture does work when done by people who know what they are doing.

On a lighter side I have thought of a physically painless, clean and almost humane way to get the enemy to talk.  We chain them to a wall and keep showing him pictures of Hillary Clinton; I figure they’ll crack in a matter of minutes and Hillary can put it in her resume that she worked with US Intelligence to question prisoners.  The liberals could continue to say Hillary is a visionary, the prisoner(s) can say after 15 minutes they just couldn’t stand the pain and the interrogators can get a promotion.  NOW THAT IS A WIN WIN!!!

THE SO CALLED REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP AND ESTABLISHMENT HAS GONE BAT ---T CRAZY!!!

We now have the Republican Elites (establishment) willing to support Clinton over Donald Trump!!  What is with this? 

 

We have Republican donor super pacs doing everything in their power to stop Trump as well as the elected big shots in D.C. who are making plans on screwing Trump when he gets to the convention.  These so called Republican Leaders are so out of touch and stupid it is becoming embarrassing to be called a Republican.  They are so out of touch with the people and the voters they don’t have a clue that this isn’t about Trump it is about the political revolution that is now taking place, caused by them.

 

So now we have a Republican front runner being attacked by Black Lies Matter, Shut down Wall St.  George Soreasses group, Bill Ayers group and now the Republican establishment.  Trump is still standing, I don’t know for how much longer, but he is still standing.  If it was up to me I would suggest to every voter to vote for Trump, give him the entire remaining delegates to the Republican Convention and let the news media have a night off, heaven knows Megyn Kelly could use it.

 

The establishment in both parties is not showing good healthy discussions and debates, Trump has the top Democratic contender barking like a dog with the Socialist runner up promising a chicken in every pot and you are paying for the chicken (hey Hillary-ruff-ruff-ruff), what in hell kind of election did the voters get themselves into this time??

 

What is going on between Romney and Trump is a long standing battle going back to the last presidential election where Trump gave Romney a large campaign contribution for a private promise and Romney reneged on him and the fight began.  John McCain: Trump had a 15,000 person rally in AZ and when McCain was interviewed about it his only comment was that he didn’t think there were 15,000 in AZ with mental health issues so Trump slapped him for not being a war hero; but, a POW, it goes on and on; but Trump said he would kill the families of the Isis, that came about after Isis publically requested the so called lone wolf terrorists to kill the families of our military (women and children), I haven’t heard that any of those threats have come to fruition, (thank you Trump to let Isis knows we have at least one candidate who has the courage to be politically incorrect and defend our country our military and their families).

 

We hear a lot of all the money Trump has donated to Democrats but we never hear how much he has donated to Republican candidates and causes which is sizeable.  To sum that up he is a big business man and buys and sells politicians on a regular basis, that is how he gets things done; that is how he knows what is wrong with the system he is a master of using the system to be successful and now has the system and establishment petrified he might win.

 

I will vote for Trump for president and if he is not on the ballot, I’ll write him in and when I am attacked for throwing my vote away and do I want bow wow for president my answer will be no but the Republican establishment does. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS LEFT ME I HAVEN’T LEFT THEM!!!

LET'S KEEP POLITICS IN PERSPECTIVE!!!

I first got involved in politics in 1972, working on and chairing campaigns for the next 40 years.  In all of this time I have seen it all, or thought I did, but, what his happening now is unbelievable.  About 10 years ago I started seeing that evolving politics was not about helping and representing the people who elected us; but, about power and the establishment.

 

It is on all levels of politics because it is how politics has evolved.  This is especially true on the federal level.  Question: Why hasn’t the Republican leadership in D.C. stopped Obama?  Well let’s think about this, Obama has allowed the Republican establishment to maintain their power structure their lobbyist financial base and the big money donors who have been calling the shots in our federal policy.

 

As a Democrat Bernie Sanders knows that and so doesn’t his followers and what a fight they have been putting up.

 

On the Republican side Donald Trump knows how the game is played because he bought and sold politicians to pave the way for his business programs.  That is why the Republican establishment is so against him; it is all about power and control and they know they cannot control Trump.

 

To show the narrow vision, arrogance and lack of understanding of what is happening on the political streets, the political power structure still do not HAVE A CLUE! The Establishment has gone hog wild attacking Trump, claiming he has a spray tan that is clogging his pores, a small penis, organized crime ties, he is not as rich as he claims and he hates women.  Well he has been married three times to women, so he likes women; I think it is their lawyers he doesn’t like.  What was the most laughable point is Marco Rubio’s current fixation with the size of Trumps penis, I suspect that is one of the reasons Trump has secret service protection for when he goes to the men’s room; can you see how stupid and desperate the establishment is to hold on to their power and keeping that change in power away from people like you and me.  The bottom line is WHO CARES?? This style of politics, although amusing, is not what we want in our politics.

 

What is equally as interesting is Trump is only the messenger not the movement.  We are witnessing the second American Revolution to get rid of the control freaks and corruption that is permeating D.C. and our founding fathers were afraid of.  The establishment has not come to grips with the simple, hardworking and honest people like us who have had enough of their lying and manipulation of the political system we entrusted them with.  In short the political establishment is attacking us, the revolution, and not just Trump; he’s the messenger we are the movement.

 

It is the same with the Democratic Party with the Clinton fiasco of email and public corruption that she is being investigated for by the FBI.  This is so bad I don’t know if she wins the election will she be sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or the Warden of the Alderson, WV women’s prison; maybe this explains the new found fixation against walls.  I predict we will see a big crossover for Democrats to vote Republican this election.  The issue is will we have a President that is smart enough to assimilate them into our party? Another big question is this the beginning of a new party or just a new frustrated electorate that might just sit down and discuss the future of our country minus the establishment, a discussion about the very future for our children, our economy, our national security.

The “Natural Born Citizen” Issue Explained

It’s not a court issue—the Founders defined it—we’ve just forgotten.

Can just anyone be elected President of the United States? No, of course not. Foreigners for example are not eligible. The Constitution spells out the eligibility standards:

Article II, Section 1: “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

As you can see, Article II distinguishes between Citizens and natural born Citizens. Although we know the Founding Fathers used language with extreme care, this is now raising a ruckus. I’m a researcher, I’ve done the legwork, so let me set the record straight. The answers we need are right there in the historical record. This is not a judiciable matter for courts as has been recently suggested, along with other modern-day distractions and red herrings. Here’s the short version.

At the time of our nation’s founding Benjamin Franklin obtained three copies of Law of Nations by Emer de Vattel. There is a record of the acquisition from Franklin backing this up that still exists today. I’ll quote that in a moment. It was the preeminent guide on the subject. Franklin put one in a library, sent one to the College of Massachusetts, and brought one to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia for the delegates to use, which they did.

This book they used defines “natural born citizen” clearly as a person born in a country, both of whose parents are citizens of the country at the time of birth. It’s a plain, clear definition of the term they used in the Constitution.

It’s a three-part requirement. It allows for no foreign birth or parentage in a person who is a natural born citizen. It is distinct from ordinary citizenship. Article II in the Constitution recognizes the distinction.

John Jay, who became our first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, sent a letter to George Washington, which also still exists, which I’ll also quote in a moment, confirming that the only way to ensure the U.S. presidency remains free of what today we would call “foreign entanglements” was to require that eligibility be limited to natural born citizens only. Washington replied, thanking him for the advice. In editing the final version of the Constitution, the Framers changed Article II from citizen to natural born Citizen, capitalized that way. Records of all this exist.

There, in a nutshell, is the entire situation.

No court decision is needed. The idea that a court must weigh in because the Founders didn’t define the term in the Constitution is nonsense. It is the same type of nonsense modern people have created to undermine other fundamental elements of our Constitution. The Founders knew exactly what the term meant, just like they knew what “weights and measures” meant when they used that (without defining it) and they used it with precision, for deliberate reason.

The presidency is the only office in our entire legal structure that has this requirement. Citizen appears throughout the law. Natural born citizen appears in one place and one place only—as a requirement for the highest office in the land. You can stop here and you have the truth of the matter, or read further if this interests you and you want the details.

This White Paper is not about liking one candidate over another—I do not endorse or oppose candidates, as people who know me are well aware. This is about liking the Constitution over any candidate. It would be wrong to let the fact that we have allowed a person into office who somehow avoided proper review and does not meet the eligibility requirements stated in our Constitution, to justify offering up additional candidates who similarly do not meet the fundamental test set out in our nation’s charter.

A Way Out of Our Dilemma

Those running who fit this category of ineligible to hold the office of President would do the nation an immense service, cement their place in history forever, and find the love of their countrymen, by stepping down gracefully and with honor. They can state publicly they have seen the light and have come to understand the facts as they should properly be understood. The Constitution comes first.

“Sometimes wisdom comes late,” as Justice Antonin Scalia presciently said. Since they cannot all rise to the top, it would be a far more elegant, courageous and honorable departure than simply conceding the race to someone else based on poll numbers. Such a tactful move would leave them, admired and respected, available for virtually any other office in the land.

THE DOCUMENTATION

From Ben Franklin’s letter to Charles William Frederic Dumas:
Philadelphia, 9 December, 1775.

“...I am much obliged by the kind present you have made us of your edition of Vattel. It came to us in good season, when the circumstances of a rising state make it necessary frequently to consult the law of nations. Accordingly that copy, which I kept, (after depositing one in our own public library here, and sending the other to the College of Massachusetts Bay, as you directed,) has been continually in the hands of the members of our Congress, now sitting, who are much pleased with your notes and preface, and have entertained a high and just esteem for their author. Your manuscript “Idee sur le Gouvernement et la Royaute” is also well relished, and may, in time, have its effect. I thank you, likewise, for the other smaller pieces, which accompanied Vattel...”

The letter addresses other matters concerning employment of colleagues, and translations of the proceedings of the Congress.

Vattel’s definition of a natural born citizen:

Law of Nations, Book I, Ch. XIX, at § 212:
§ 212: The citizens are the members of the civil society: bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.

John Jay wrote to George Washington:

July 25, 1787
“Permit me to hint, whether it would not be wise & seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of Foreigners into the administration of our national Government; and to declare expresly that the Command in chief of the american army shall not be given to, nor devolve on, any but a natural born Citizen.”

In Sep., 1787, the “Committee of Eleven,” chosen at the Constitutional Convention to work out details on numerous occasions, changed the presidential requirement from citizen to natural born citizen, after receiving Jay’s letter. The Convention accepted the changes, hence the wording we have today.

-- Bret Baier (Fox News) asserts that Congress may define (and presumably redefine, from time to time) terms in the Constitution by means of law.

-- Chet Arthur in American Thinker quips that “the original meaning of ‘natural born citizen’” is determined by reference to “The Heritage Guide to the Constitution” (available on Amazon) and to the definition of “citizen” at Sec. 1 of the 14th Amendment, ratified 1868. (For the record, the 14th Amendment did not amend or even address Article II.)

-- Human Events claimed in 2012 that anyone born within The United States is a “natural born citizen” eligible to be President, and based on a “common-sense logical approach” that includes any foreigner naturalized or otherwise obtaining citizenship as eligible. No support is included (because there isn’t any).

-- Jake Walker at Red State confuses natural born subjects (a function of the British Crown) and natural born citizens (in this Republic which we fought a war to achieve).

-- I’ve seen worse examples on TV but didn’t take notes. Rush Limbaugh suggested on radio the issue is not an issue. Bill O’Reilly said on his FOX-TV show The Factor definitively he will not mention the matter again. The collection of official sounding commentary, from Harvard to hashtags, is mind boggling. One learned fellow tells me Article II was added to keep foreign-born Alexander Hamilton out of office, which makes little sense since all Founders were British subjects when the nation began, and Article II accounts for that. CNN has aired a bewildering array of self-contradictory pontification on who is eligible with barely any reference to history, much of it from talking heads whose ignorance of the subject is self evident.
